Cadeanco’s Digital Point Load Tester is a light weight, heavy duty, portable instrument used to determine the Point Load Strength Index of rock specimens.  The Point Load Strength Test is an index test for rock strength classification. The test can measure the Point Load Strength (Is) and the Strength Anisotropy index (Ia) of rock specimens.

Operating  Principle

A rock specimen is placed between the conical platens and the unit is set into peak load measurement mode. A uniaxial load is manually applied using the hydraulic jack. The peak load at time of specimen failure is displayed on the OLED screen.

The instrument is based on a two column, H frame design. The columns are constructed from stainless steel providing maximum strength under peak load, whilst the body is constructed from anodized aluminium to reduce overall unit weight without compromising structural rigidity. Platen alignment is achieved using precision tolerance bushings, whilst platen separation is measured by a sliding scale rule with adjustable datum.

The load measurement is taken using a microprocessor managed strain gauge and precision signal conditioning circuitry to ensure highly accurate and repeatable data.
